About the Allis-Chalmers 170
The Allis-Chalmers 170 was one of the larger tractors in the company's 1960s line. Introduced in 1967 as the One-Seventy, it used a four-cylinder engine, live PTO, hydraulic power assist, and an eight-speed transmission with two-speed power shift.
Early Allis-Chalmers literature calls it the One-Seventy, while later tractors use the numeric 170 marking. The model was available with gasoline or diesel power and was built through 1973, so the tractor year and serial number are useful when matching parts.
Serial Number Reference
Serial number locations: The tractor serial number is on the left front side of the torque housing. The gasoline engine serial number is at the rear left side of the engine block behind the carburetor. The diesel engine serial number is on the top right side of the cylinder block.
