About the Allis-Chalmers 6140
The Allis-Chalmers 6140 is a diesel utility tractor with a three-cylinder Toyosha engine and ten-speed synchromesh transmission. Power steering, a Category I hitch, and independent 540-rpm PTO supported general farm and loader work.
Published production period: 1982–1985. Two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions were available. The 6140 uses a different design from the 6060, 6070, and 6080, so identify it separately when matching replacement parts.
Serial Number Reference
Serial number locations: AGCO’s heritage catalog identifies the Product Identification Number plate on the left side of the clutch housing. TractorData lists a serial location on the left side of the fuel tank; check both areas.
The checked references disagree on annual serial-number ranges. An annual table is omitted pending confirmation from original model literature.
