About the Allis-Chalmers D15
The D15 replaced the D14 in 1960 and carried the compact D Series design into the 1960s. Early D15 tractors used a four-cylinder engine available in gasoline, LP gas, or diesel versions, with more power and an eight-speed transmission option.
There are two main versions to keep in mind: Series I was built from 1960 through 1962, and Series II from 1963 through 1968. Series II tractors received larger gas and LP engines, a dry air cleaner, headlights moved to the rear fenders, and updated hood decals. These changes are why the model year and serial number should be checked before ordering a D15 part.
Serial Number Reference
Serial number locations: On Series I tractors, the tractor serial number is stamped at the left front end of the torque housing. The gasoline engine serial number is on the rear left-hand side behind the carburetor, and the diesel engine serial number is on the top left-hand side of the engine block. On Series II tractors, the tractor serial number is stamped into the flange where the engine and transmission meet on the left side; gasoline engine numbers are at the rear left-hand side near the carburetor, and diesel numbers are on the top left-hand side of the cylinder block.
